BBC News Election Map 2005

Notes

This was part the BBC News website's 2005 election coverage for which we got a Peter Sulivan award at Malofiej which is like the news graphics Oscars.

Clicking on things doesn't quite work properly, the tooltip sometimes gets in the way and blocks the mouse events.

Note the custom pixel vesion of Verdana that the graphic uses because we had to turn of anti-aliasing to get performance up to scratch.

I think the main UX designer on this was Paul Sissons.

All told it probably represents about 4 months work. These days, with libraries like D3 and standard formats like geojson, you could probably knock this kind of thing out in couple of weeks max.
