Napoleon (2023)

2.5/5

Basic solid film-making without much to say about anything, it's got the big battles everyone knows about, it forgrounds the romantic relationship, it's tasteful and (ignoring historical stuff) there's nothing really wrong with it which is to say there's nothing really interesting about it. The acting is good and the battle scenes are clearly drawn and well staged, Austerlitz is kind of the only moment in the film that it moves beyond "decent", and I would consider watching 120 minutes of a Ridley Scott directed battle of Waterloo (if there he dained to make use of some historical consultants). But coming out the cinema my overwhelming feeling was "well that was a thing I saw".

In summary: I won't be watching the 4 hour version
