Minority Report (2002)

3/5

An interesting time capsule, Nokia and Gap product placement and a horrible blown out visual style that owes something to the matrix, some not quite good enough cgi.

In common with plenty of other cyberpunk stories it takes its broad shape from film noir but unlike most cyberpunk the brands and corporations are treated as basically benign and the government is only mildly dystopian, the problem is a few bad apples and a conspiracy for Tom Cruise to find out and fix. Basically it’s a dad thriller that’s seen the matrix and it’s fine.

The action scenes are probably the weakest bit for me, they don’t really add much, they have a weirdly slapstick tone that at odds with the rest the film, and just serve to extend the running time.
