Really enjoyed this. Genuinely stressful first section on the mainland. And that the film didn’t shy away from being weird; the pregnant infected, the Jimmy Savile referencing coda. And then it was properly moving and has things to say about relationships with parents and all sorts of other stuff that’s there but never forced.

I feel like I’ve watched a bunch of Alex Garland films recently so it’s interesting to see what a difference having Danny Boyle here to handle the directing makes, the whole thing’s more accessible(positive) and more legible(mixed). Also, great soundtrack, in yr face when it needs to be but otherwise nicely understated.
