Wolves of Mercia

Played (once) on 2024-03-13

I was reluctant to play this (not much a fan of "social deduction" games and with 10 players it felt crowded) but everyone else was in so I gave it a shot. I'm not sure the rules complexity and different roles really adds much to the basic formula and it felt like multiple plays would be needed to grasp how all the roles interact. It was everyone's first game and it took us a while to stumble to the end, when we got there it felt vaguely unsatifying. The rule book was not great at clearing up edge cases and queries leading to a lot of mid game googling. It has all the problems the genre typically has, player elimination, some people just flounder about in confusion, everyone has to close their eyes and make random noises in the middle of a nice pub in Islington appearing to other patrons as members of a wierd cult. etc. Will probably avoid playing again unless I just want to hang out with a specific group who are playing.
