5 player game. All the other players were bidding really high (IMO), getting fixated on the ‘real’ value of paintings as determined by the end of round sale (reading the BGG forums this seems to be a pattern with some groups). So if a painting would likely sell for €40 they would pay 39 netting themselves a profit, the revelation that the seller just made €39 so their relative position was €38 down never seemed to hit. I won, buying only a couple of paintings over the course of the game.
